I devised the letter sheet for these mobiles, and my friend Oscar Ramos drafted them by hand for me, nearly 30 years ago. At the time I tried mounting them on perspex rods but this involved sandwiching balsa wood in between the letters and the end result looked too crude and the perspex rods didn’t stay straight enough so, regrettably, didn’t do anything more with them. Now with the possibilities of the computer and the skills of Stuart Haiz, the web designer with whom I collaborated on this site, I have found a virtual way to mount them. What I have learnt from this is that sometimes you have an idea and either the technology is not yet available, or is not yet accessible enough for financial or other reasons. Similarly when I began the collaged poems in the late 70’s, there was not a photocopier that could photocopy something the size of the originals and so again I waited years before continuing with them and producing them in a book.
I can no longer wait that long, so today I would put things out in another form more immediately!
